Janitorial & Facilities Associate

Reports To: Assistant Manager and Center Manager

Status: Part Time

Hourly Wage: $18.00 per hour
Location: Van Dyke Houses Boxing Community Center
Work Arrangement: Onsite / In-Person

Position Summary

BOXER, Inc. is seeking a Janitorial & Facilities Associate to help maintain a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment at the Van Dyke Houses Boxing Community Center. This onsite role is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the boxing gym, café, changing rooms, restrooms, offices, locker areas, and common spaces. The Janitorial & Facilities Associate plays an important role in supporting daily operations and ensuring a positive experience for participants, staff, families, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize facility areas, including the gym, restrooms, offices, café, locker areas, and common spaces.

  • Disinfect high-touch surfaces and boxing/fitness equipment using appropriate cleaning protocols.

  • Restock restrooms, paper products, soap, sanitizer, and other facility supplies.

  • Remove trash and recycling in accordance with NYC sanitation requirements.

  • Conduct routine facility walkthroughs and report maintenance, safety, or cleanliness concerns.

  • Assist with room setup, breakdown, and facility preparation for programs, events, exhibitions, and competitions.

  • Follow OSHA safety procedures, chemical handling requirements, and sanitation standards.

  • Maintain a respectful, professional, and community-centered presence with participants, families, staff, and visitors.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred; relevant experience may be considered.

  • Janitorial, custodial, housekeeping, or facilities maintenance experience preferred.

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb, and perform sustained physical work.

  • Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and sanitation procedures.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and cleaning schedules.

  • Reliable, punctual, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a community center, school, gym, athletic facility, or recreation center.

  • Knowledge of OSHA HazCom standards and proper chemical handling.

  • Basic maintenance or facility troubleshooting skills.

  • Experience cleaning and maintaining athletic or fitness equipment.

  • Bilingual proficiency in English/Spanish or another community language a plus.

  • Experience working in Brownsville, East New York, or similar communities.

 

Work Schedule / Conditions

This is an onsite, in-person position. Remote work is not applicable. Evening, weekend, and early morning availability may be required based on the Center’s programming and event schedule. This is a highly physical role requiring sustained standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and regular use of cleaning supplies and Personal Protective Equipment.
