Licensed Security Guard

Reports To: Assistant Manager and Center Manager

Location: Van Dyke Houses Boxing Community Center
Work Arrangement: Onsite / In-Person
Compensation: $46,000 (Annual Salary)

Status: Full Time

Position Summary

BOXER, Inc. is seeking a Licensed Security Guard to help maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for participants, staff, volunteers, vendors, and visitors at the Van Dyke Houses Boxing Community Center.

This onsite role is responsible for monitoring facility access, enforcing Center policies, supporting conflict prevention and de-escalation, responding to incidents, and helping maintain a positive, trauma-informed environment consistent with DYCD requirements and the Center’s mission.​

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor entrances, exits, and common areas throughout the facility.

  • Verify visitor identification and enforce facility sign-in procedures.

  • Conduct scheduled and random security rounds.

  • Maintain daily security logs and complete incident reports.

  • Respond to safety concerns, incidents, and emergencies.

  • Support conflict prevention and de-escalation using trauma-informed approaches.

  • Assist with participant flow during peak hours, program transitions, and dismissal.

  • Provide visible security support during events, competitions, exhibitions, and community activities.

  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with Center policies, DYCD requirements, and applicable New York State laws.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current, valid New York State Security Guard License required.

  • 8-hour pre-assignment and 16-hour on-the-job training certificates required.

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Minimum of one year of verifiable security experience.

  • Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.

  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and objective under pressure.

  • Ability to work respectfully with youth, families, staff, and community members.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in schools, community centers, recreation facilities, or youth-serving organizations.

  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification, or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire.

  • Training in trauma-informed practices, de-escalation, or mental health first aid.

  • Experience working in Brownsville, East New York, or similar communities.

  • Bilingual proficiency in English/Spanish or another community language preferred.

  • Familiarity with DYCD-funded programs or DYCD compliance requirements.

 

Work Schedule / Conditions

This is an onsite, in-person position. Remote work is not available. Evening, weekend, and holiday availability may be required based on the Center’s programming schedule. The role requires standing, walking, patrolling for extended periods, and responding quickly in emergency situations.
